Garrigues appoints 16 new partners and senior partner
The Garrigues partners’ meeting, held in Barcelona, has approved – effective January 1, 2024 – the appointment of 16 new equity partners, as well as the appointment of Rosa Zarza as the first woman to hold the position of senior partner of the firm, replacing Javier Ybáñez, who, at the end of his term of office, will continue to be the partner responsible for the Latin American practice.

In addition to the four new international partners whose appointments become effective January 1, five professionals have become international partners in 2023: Mónica Bolaños (tax, Bogotá), Ignacio Campino (tax, Santiago de Chile), João Lima Cluny (dispute resolution: criminal law, Lisbon), Mark J. English (antitrust, Brussels) and Manuel Groenewold (corporate and M&A, Mexico City).
Appointment of senior partner
Rosa Zarza is the global head of the labor and sustainable Garrigues department. She is a member of the firm’s management committee and is responsible for leading its internal sustainability strategy, which has earned her recognition from the main international directories. She also carries out her academic and teaching activities as director of the ESG executive program at Centro de Estudios Garrigues and as a postgraduate lecturer at various institutions. She holds a law degree from Universidad Complutense de Madrid and a master’s degree in labor law from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.
In her new position as a senior partner at Garrigues, she will be responsible for ensuring compliance with the firm’s internal policies and good governance, safeguarding its reputation and international positioning, and managing conflicts of interest in coordination with the firm’s executive chairman.
Javier Ybáñez
Following the conclusion of his term as senior partner and his decision not to stand for re-election, Javier Ybáñez will continue to be the partner responsible for Garrigues’ Latin American practice. Javier has spent his entire professional career at the firm. After leading the corporate and M&A department, he has coordinated Garrigues’ expansion in Latin America since 2013. A law graduate from Universidad Complutense de Madrid (CEU San Pablo), he is a specialist in capital and financial markets.
