Jones Day advises on Renault Group and Geely deal

Jones Day has advised Geely Automobile Holdings Limited and Geely Holding Group on the creation of a 50/50 joint venture with Renault Group dedicated to becoming the global leader in developing, manufacturing, and supplying best-in-class hybrid and highly efficient internal combustion engine powertrains.

The initial organization will have two operational centers in charge of the respective operations: Madrid for Renault Group and Hangzhou Bay for Geely. An executive team will be based in the headquarters of the new company, which is intended to be established in the UK, to consolidate operations, build on synergies, and define future plans.

The new company will include 17 engine plants and 5 R&D centers in 3 continents with 19,000 employees and aims to have an annual production capacity up to five million internal combustion, hybrid and plug-in hybrid engines and transmissions per year. It will supply multiple brands worldwide with a complete range of best-in-class powertrains.

The Jones Day deal team, which included over 40 lawyers across 6 offices.

The transacition was led by Angel Huang (M&A – Shanghai), Leon Ferera (M&A – London), Melissa Zhu (M&A – Beijing) and Mathis P. Bredimus (M&A – London).

Part of this team was formed by lawyers from Madrid office, Miguel Bermudez De Castro (M&A – Madrid) led the transaction with the support of by Priscilla Rojas (M&A – Madrid), Carolina Naranjo (M&A – Madrid), Raimundo Ortega (AT /FDI – Madrid), Cristina de Andrés (RE – Madrid), Carlos Albiñana (Tax – Madrid) and Javier Gutiérrez (M&A – Madrid).
