Former RTVE executive González-Echenique made partner at Herbert Smith
Former executive president of Radio Televisión Española (RTVE) Leopoldo González-Echenique has been made a partner at law firm Herbert Smith Freehills in Spain.
González-Echenique initially joined the firm in 2015 as a consultant specialising in financial services regulation. More recently he has played a key role in developing the firm’s banking and finance practice.
His previous roles include legal director and general secretary at Barclays Iberia and NH Hotels.
González-Echenique has also been a state lawyer in the Ministry of Economy and Finance and in the Ministry of Interior and Security, as well as general director for the ‘development of the information society’ in the Ministry of Science and Technology. He has also been deputy director of legal services at the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV).
González-Echenique has expertise in the areas of retail and wholesale banking, as well as experience in the technology sector, specifically blockchain and cyber risk.
