Iberian Lawyer’s new market leaders to be honoured in Madrid
Spain and Portugal’s top talent to be recognised at September’s bi-annual Awards ceremony
Clients are demanding their law firms find new ways of providing legal services. The era of the hyper-specialised lawyer has disappeared, and clients want global and ‘human’ lawyers, with the capacity to be creative and innovative in their solutions.
This year, Iberian Lawyer hosts the fourth edition of the bi-annual Awards that honour the new leaders in the Iberian market. Iberian Lawyer’s 40 under Forty Awards recognises the achievement of the top-40 lawyers across Spain and Portugal under the age of forty.
The ceremony will be held on September 26th, 2013 in Madrid at the unique `Museo del Traje´ Auditorium, followed by a Gala Reception. The event is supported by Glenlivet, Workshare, Tikit, FIND, ELITE, Wolters Kluwer, KermaPartners and Hospes. The winners include lawyers from the Iberian Peninsula’s major businesses and leading law firms.
The selection process has been led by a jury made up of a highly recognised diverse group of industry professionals, with the aim of selecting 40 lawyers from over 200 applications that truly define excellence in the legal market.
Based in Brazil, Portugal, Spain, the UK and the US, the Jury includes Deans from Bar Associations and Law Faculties in Portugal, Spain and the US, as well as leading consultants and experts in legal services management and talent, and in-house lawyers from leading companies such as: AGBAR, ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal, Banco Santander, Banesto, HP, Millennium BCP, Pentair, Pepsico, Pernord Ricard, Portucel and RBC Investors Services, among others.
Crucial elements of the Awards are not only the lawyers’ academic achievements, but also their experience in complex transactions and management challenges as well as their social contributions.
In particular, the jury has put great value on the time and effort that each selected lawyer offers to those less fortunate in the community. Therefore, in association with UNICEF and Aranzadi Lex Nova Foundation, such contribution will be specially honoured at the Awards.
The majority of the candidates hold a key role at Universities, whether teaching, contributing to various legal programmes or mentoring, while others have taken very active roles in charity work and non-governmental organisations, domestically and internationally – usually in support of education projects involving children.
The jury overwhelmingly agree that the Iberian market has lawyers of the highest standards, and that the 40 under Forty Awards only show the tip of the iceberg. The market is filled with exceptionally talented lawyers, and the future looks very promising for the legal profession.
