Cuatrecasas puts foot on the gas
Cuatrecasas Gonçalves Pereira is creating a new ‘Oil, Gas & Mining’ practice area and hires Rui Mayer as the Partner in charge. Mayer, former General Counsel at Grupo Galp Energía, Portugal’s oil and gas powerhouse, has 13 years experience leading the company’s legal department. He was also responsible for their global legal relations, including the Oil and Gas industry in Angola and Mozambique.
“My experience in the successful internationalisation of Galp over the years provides me with the tools in my new role at Cuatrecasas to advise any company doing business in Oil and Gas,” says Mayer, “particularly in Angola or Mozambique, where we expect that the industry will undergo strong development in the coming years.”
With this move, Cuatrecasas has taken on a well-known industry figure to strengthen their presence in Africa. But it is not without risk. Although popular in other jurisdictions, Iberia has not yet seen many in-house counsel making the move.
