Next week The Latin American Lawyer and Iberian Lawyer are heading to San Jose, Costa Rica to cover the VIII International Arbitration Congress. Meanwhile, in Colombia, noted arbitrator Eduardo Zuleta launched a new arbitration outfit and PPU helped Synlab, the German lab services provider, in its expansion in the country.

Elsewhere in Latin America, Cleary and Paul Hastings brokered a €550 million notes offering by Sigma, the Mexican food multinational, while six law firms guided the $400 million issuance by Argentina´s largest airport concessionaire.

Speaking of Argentina, Buenos Aires will host a conference presented by the IBA Corporate and M&A Law Committee and the IBA Latin American Regional Forum in March. The Latin American Lawyer will head to Buenos Aires as proud media partners to the IBA and to host a debate with in-house lawyers. Watch this space!

Philippi Prietocarrizosa Ferrero DU & Uria acted for Synlab on the purchase of all outstanding shares in Jucamimca and Andreani.

Jones Day promotes three on its Latin America practice group
Jones Day announced that Marcus S. Quintanilla and Fernando Lillo were promoted to the partnership while Artur L. Badra has become of counsel.


Southern Cross instructed Chadbourne for two acquisitions in Latin America
Private equity firm Southern Cross returned to its longtime outside advisor Chadbourne & Parke for counsel on the separate purchases of Petrobras Chile Distribucion and Getronics.

Simpson Thacher and Pellerano & Herrera instructed on Dominican Republic sovereign bond
Simpson Thacher & Bartlett acted for the initial purchaser JP Morgan Securities, and the co-manager, Banco de Reservas de la República Dominicana, in the $1.2 billion offering.


PPU instructed on landmark real estate deal in Chile
Philippi Prietocarrizosa Ferrero DU & Uria advised Indesa on the $5 million acqusition of a high end residential building in Santiago de Chile.
