Legal Advisor in litigation funding practice/ Brussels / Ref: VL/LAW/1972/18

Qualified Lawyer with minimum 5 years of experience in general commercial and corporate law, ideally with some exposure to litigation. An excellent command of English is required.

The Company operational headquarters are located in Brussels. The multidisciplinary team is composed of young professionals of various nationalities and with expertise in corporate and financial law, cross border litigation, finance and loss calculation as well as communication.

The Company is now willing to also develop activities in the field of commercial litigation funding in order to help clients to transform their potential legal claims into valuable economic assets and is therefore looking for an entrepreneurial and driven Legal Advisor (m/f).

Descripción del puesto

As a Legal Advisor and under the supervision of a partner, you will take the lead in identifying new assignments and potential targets relating to this new business activity in several European countries (mainly focused on the BeNeLux, Italy, Spain, France and Germany).

You will contact selected companies, law firms and insolvency practitioners in the above mentioned countries to propose the Company´s new litigation funding practice.

You will prepare and hold presentations to prospective clients.

Based on your legal background, you will make a first assessment if a claim could be successful. Therefore, you will preliminary analyse the proposed litigation funding project and you will liaise with local counsels and ask their advice on specific projects.

You are responsible for the preparation of proposals and the defending of those proposals to the investment committee.

You will manage pending litigation funding projects, participate in and negotiate settlement agreements.

You will be based in Brussels but travelling abroad whenever needed.

Depending on the success of this new practice, more persons will gradually be added to the team.

Perfil

You are a Master in Law with a solid experience in general commercial and contract law, ideally with some exposure to litigation. Knowledge of insolvency law is a plus.

You have minimum 5 years of experience as a lawyer, preferably with an international law firm.

You have excellent command of English, in combination with Dutch or French and ideally another European language.

You believe in the good outcome of this new project of the Company and are willing to build up these activities from scratch.

You are a dynamic lawyer with strong commercial skills and you are a fast thinker and learner.

You have good communication and presentation skills and you are not afraid to actively contact prospective clients.

You are a flexible team player and you value diversity.

You are structured and precise and you are able work autonomously.

You like to set to yourself high targets and are committed to achieve them. You are results oriented and you are able to work under time pressure.
